Major Professional Contributions:

Dr. Acharya has made pioneering contributions in diverse areas resulted in several new products in Electronic Imaging and Multimedia Computing. He developed the key `image processing chain' and related algorithms to pragmatically map them into a small foot-print silicon for the first dual-mode digital camera (the first 'Webcam' from Intel). His works significantly influenced the design of digital cameras in early days and paved the successful transition of analog to today's digital photography. His work was foundation of the MXP5800/5400 processor from Intel, capable of processing 10 BOPS that enabled successful implementation of a set of Internet capable photocopiers from Xerox and Fuji-Xerox. After returning from USA in 2008, he founded Videonetics with a mission to develop Indian technologies to indigenously solve challenging problems rich with Indian Intellectual Property currently deployed across the nation in Intelligent Traffic Management, Smart City, Critical Infra structure Surveillance, etc. Dr. Acharya served in US National Body of JPEG2000 standard committee (1998-2002) in International Standard Organization (ISO) for definition of this scalable image compression standard.
